Are You Ready for an Alternative and Fun Nighttime

June 1st, 2009

While no one would argue that the weather in California is ideal, summer heat can make doing anything besides sitting in air conditioning a little daunting . While movies are one good way to get out of the heat, there are only so many; and the bar scene can get old and expensive. That’s why I like to mix it up a little – occasionally hit golf balls or head to the indoor go karts in Thousand Oaks or Sylmar.

As a top place to go kart Los Angeles wouldn’t generally be on peoples’ short lists because of the bright sun and heat of the asphalt and cars from inside a helmet: more like cooking than racing. But being inside not only alleviates the heat of the sun, it also ensures visibility and optimal track conditions, since the tracks aren’t subjected to the elements. The indoor tracks are also more nuanced than the conventional outdoor donuts tracks, making racing more exciting – and that there are two locations to choose from add even more variety to the equation.

Some of my friends were quick to dismiss going to the indoor go karts as a outlandish concepttriumphant procedure for less interesting outdoor tracks. When the competitive spirit was awakened and the petal did finally hit the metal, it was non-stop laughs. Since then, it has been hard to encourage individuals that going to a movie is really worthwhile when the go kart Los Angeles track is so close by.

Because it is so low cost and because it’s way more fun than you either remember or imagine, I chance. First timers will also be surprised by how intuitive, comfortable, and non-threatening safe kart racing really is and may run the risk of becoming hooked after just one lap around the track – I know that’s all it took for me to realize that this was a great alternative to a lazy night at the movies or a crazy night out drinking.

Why Personal Injury Attorneys Love Cell Phones

May 16th, 2009

Cell phones may be convenient, but they are a huge distraction when you’re behind the wheel. The problem is that cell phone distractions are becoming very common incidents. Making the conscious decision to never talk on a cell phone while driving is an effort many are just not willing to make.

An accident caused by someone talking on a phone while driving can quickly become the case of a personal injury lawyer. Chicago is a busy town, and cell phone accidents are common. Usually, these accidents could have been avoided if the driver only put the phone down and paid attention to the road.

Even with the development of car speakerphones and handsets, talking on a cell phone can still be considerably dangerous. There is a limit to how much information the human mind can process. Add cell phones to the mix, and you distract your attention away from the road. If your mind isn’t on the road in front of you, you can quickly lose control that results in a tragic accident.

The dangers of talking on cell phones while driving have been overshadowed by the more sinister development of “texting while driving,” but they still remain. The act of having a conversation while manipulating digital technology can be cumbersome and distracting, taking your eyes away from your driving before you realize it.

In fact, recent studies have shown that 20-year-olds who talk on cell phones while driving have a slower driving reaction time than someone 30 years their senior. When you are driving a car, your mind needs to be on the road in front of you so your reaction times are primed and ready.

States across the nation have instituted various laws regulating the use of cell phones while driving, and these statutes can vary according to region. Ignorance of such regulations is no excuse and can result in an expensive citation.

If you’ve been injured by someone driving while they’re talking on a cell phone, call a personal injury lawyer. Chicago has numerous options, including some that only collect their fee if you win your case. Successful lawsuits assist change the world for the better by encouraging people to put the cell phone down and pay attention to their driving. The more successful settlements that happen as a result of such lawsuits, the less socially acceptable talking on a cell phone while driving will be.

Keeping up to Date with Modern Welders Maximizes your Options and Minimizes your Costs

April 2nd, 2009

The technology of welding is ever changing and developing, making the job easier and safer every day. Improvements in welders have made the units much smaller and lighter, easier to transport on a job, wherever it may be. Welding instruments must be portable, as chances are what you are welding is far too big and heavy to bring to the welding equipment itself. The lighter and more portable the equipment, the easier the job will be. Welders need to be mobile in this demanding profession. At the same time, you don’t want to sacrifice performance for lighter weights. Many of the new welding models feature portability without compromising the performance.

The art of welding takes on a variety of jobs, so versatility is also essential. Multi-purpose welder can fit any job, no matter the detail or the size or scope of the project. When you’ve made an investment into this type of equipment, getting all the potential from the equipment is crucial. You need it to be able to perform a variety of jobs and tasks, as each day on the job brings a unique set of challenges and demands.

These days especially cost is the demanding drive of any job. High energy costs, not to mention increasing prices in every sector of the industry, has made it essential in minimizing your bottom line. Power efficiency minimizes your overhead costs, which can be quite substantial depending on the type of welding and materials involved. Shield metal arc welding and oxyfuel welding are relatively inexpensive, while laser beam welding and electron arc welding will range considerably higher.

Either way, when you are performing a job multiple times, the cost will add up. Minimizing these costs is essential in making the most of your overhead. The key is to be efficient as possible with up-to-date equipment. More and more manufacturers of welding equipment are designing their tools to be more efficient on power usage, which will incrementally save you a bundle at every step of the welding process.

Really, investing in up-to-date welding technology not only minimizes your overhead costs, it also maximizes your options. You can become more mobile, and you can perform a wider variety of jobs with the same equipment. Older equipment wears out, becoming not only less functional, but also consuming costly energy that compounds your costs. Get modern, get mobile, and get more efficient. High performance can be on the go and still be more efficient than that old dinosaur you have sitting in the shop.

Regular checks of your air conditioner’s filter will improve performance

March 26th, 2009

Is your air conditioner not as cool as you remember it, or are you just imagining things?

Spring and summer in Los Angeles can get hot. The couch just seems to stick to your body, and certain corners of the living room always seem musty and warm, no matter how high the air conditioner is turned up. You may remember back when you first got your air conditioner how much cooler it seemed to make each room, as if your entire house felt as nice as a refrigerator despite the boiling heat outside.

Your mind isn’t playing tricks on you or merely doing wishful thinking. Chances are, your air conditioner isn’t as primed as it once was. Appliances naturally wear out, especially without regular preventative maintenance. Often, poor performance may be simply the result of a clogged filter.

When it comes to Los Angeles air conditioning and heating, most Los Angeles electric companies make regular checkups an important part of their services. Without routine maintenance, you simply aren’t getting the most out of your air conditioning system. Cleaning a filter regularly often improves an air conditioner’s performance considerably.

Your typical room-size air conditioner has a dust and debris filter that will clog overtime if not cleaned regularly. This blocks airflow and severely limits the appliance’s ability to keep the room cool, as well as circulates dirt, dust and debris that can be very harmful to allergies.

Window air conditioners will either have a disposable filter that needs to be changed regularly, or have a re-usable filter that should be cleaned weekly. For central air conditioning units, these filters are usually in the cold air return vent or ductwork.

For most models, you can access the filter through either the side or rear of the air conditioner. Some simply slide out; others will require a screwdriver to remove the screws. Also, be sure to check the evaporator coil, which can ice over and damage the unit if the filter is clogged.

These steps are simple routine maintenance done on a service check by Los Angeles electric companies. Periodically doing your own checks, however, will result in a better performance of your Los Angeles air conditioning and heating system. The more you keep up on your system’s performance, the cooler and more relaxed your home will feel, even when the air outside is as thick as a wool blanket.

Telephone Technology

March 24th, 2009

Over the past five or so years, most small and mid-sized businesses have caught onto the cust-cutting trend started by large corporate IT departments over a decade ago: a switch to hosted VOIP PBX networks. A PBX network’s benefits are obvious: it allows free extension-to-extension calling within the office, eliminating the phone company’s role in those interactions. But to dial to outside lines, a PBX must be integrated into the conventional PSTN network, which is where a SIP trunk fits into the equation of seamless integration of IT.

I recently spoke with the eminent provider of Los Angeles SIP trunk solutions, who explained to me that the SIP trunk will use internet/IP infrastructure and replace analog circuits and PRIs in the absence of a host. The cost savings is dramatic when you consider that local calling over the IP infrastructure is free and long distance is as little as 2 cents per minute, versus that higher rates incurred by the use of PRIs. In addition, SIP trunks can be purchased in increments of one, rather than in the bulk quantities required to purchase a PRI that make no sense for small businesses to purchase.

SIP trunks also present an attractive alternative to hosted networks for those who think a premise-based system makes more sense than a hosted system – either because it will be cheaper than hosting (in the case of a very large business) or because it just affords greater control and, for some, peace of mind. They are considered by many to be more reliable than the traditional circuitry and for that reason are also preferred by many IT professionals.

The only negative aspect to a Los Angeles SIP Trunk, it seems, is just how underutilized it is. Sure, SIP trunks chew up some of your bandwidth when they’re in use, but with bandwidth from local ISPs coming as low as ~$300/mo for a T1, the bandwidth aspect can’t be a reasonable deterrent. In my view, a lot of people are reluctant to switch to hosted PBX networks because they are nervous about the ease of controlling their own network or because they have already sunk significant capital into investing in PRIs or analog circuitry to administer the network. Cost savings for premise-based networks in LA is made easy by the know-how of local companies who will work with you to install SIP trunks to save your company money that can be better spent on growing business.

Get Some Free Sales Help

March 7th, 2009

In my opinion, firsthand sales info is always best learned through experience. I didn’t get to go to college. I joined the military right after finishing high school and was stationed away for five years. When I came back from my tour of duty I didn’t have time to go to college. I wanted to get settled down, buy my own house and start a family. I knew that a career in the automotive industry would be my best bet. I took into account my skills and my experience and I decided to enter into the automotive industry.

While I was in active duty I worked as a mechanic for all of our ground team transportation devices. I worked on cars, trucks, tanks, and Humvees all day long. I was especially skilled at working on the Humvees and I gained extensive knowledge of their mechanical composition. They became my favorite transportation vessel to work on and I thoroughly enjoyed my job. I had no idea that I was also building up a wealth of sales info that would come in very handy later on in my life.

When I returned home I looked into working as a mechanic. I scheduled an interview at a local Hummer dealership for a position as a full service mechanic. I was given the job immediately after they reviewed my credentials. While the job and the hours were great, the pay was not enough to cover all of my expenses. I started bartending on the weekends to make up for the difference.

One morning after a long weekend I must’ve looked pretty worn down because one of the salesmen approached me and asked me if I was ok. I explained that I was up late working at the bar and then had to be in for my shift at seven in the morning. He looked at me and said that I could make more money and better use of my skills by becoming a salesman for the dealership.

I started selling the very next week. My mentors at the dealership provided me with all the sales info that I could ever need to perform well on the job. After working on them for years, I was familiar with all the models and was very knowledgeable about their performance. In my first week I sold six trucks to customers that were incredibly impressed by my comprehensive knowledge of the truck’s mechanics.

Perfect Shirt to Wear This Summer

February 27th, 2009

Aloha! Do you need to spice up your wardrobe with some fun colors? Are you looking for the perfect shirt to wear this summer? If so, then maybe it is time you looked into owning a Hawaiian shirt or two.

Hawaiian shirts come in almost every color imaginable. There are shirts in every color from the rainbow and many other colors you never thought existed. Some Hawaiian shirts come in multiple colors and can even have a color scheme of more than 20 colors in one shirt.

There are hundreds of different prints available on Hawaiian shirts including contemporary, vintage, retro, traditional, and novelty themes. There are even Hawaiian shirts that have holiday prints so you can wear them for any occasion.

Hawaiian shirts are mostly made from silk, rayon, or cotton but some of the nicer shirts are made from linen. All of these materials are light and airy, just the thing for your perfect Hawaiian day.

There are Hawaiian shirts for men, women, children and pets. A family can even get an entire matching set of Hawaiian shirts. Hawaiian prints also come on dresses, pants, shorts, tank tops, sandals, hats, jewelry and luggage.  You can even purchase Hawaiian lotions and skin care.

Hawaiian home décor is available for purchase including picture frames and glassware. Bedding, blankets, curtains, shower curtains, bath rugs and bathroom accessories are also offered in Hawaiian prints.

The Hawaiian shirt, or Aloha shirt, is a visible greeter and ambassador and is worn as a statement of a person’s love and connection with a special place. The Hawaiian shirt originated in the 1930’s and has evolved over the decades. Originally, there were fifteen different Hawaiian prints made. These prints were then sent to Japan where they were printed by hand onto silk.

Surfers and beach goers started noticing these Hawaiian shirts and began buying them in increasing numbers. Visitors to Hawaii started bring home Hawaiian shirts as souvenirs and people started falling in love with the bright, easy to wear, casual look of these shirts and an entire new fad began.

At the end of the 1950’s, Hawaii became America’s 50th state and even more attention and tourists were brought to the islands, and more significantly to the Hawaiian shirt.  The Hawaiian shirt began to make appearances in movies and on television and the hype behind the Hawaiian shirt has not seemed to fade. The popularity of these shirts has managed to bleed through the decades and will most likely manage to do so throughout the years to come.

Invest in yourself w/ a new Condo

February 21st, 2009

Chicago has the nightlife, the art museums, a music scene that gave birth to the blues, not to mention Chicago-style pizza and some of the best restaurants in the world. Why wouldn’t you want to live in Chicago?

But like many great cities in America, rental housing in Chicago is unstable. It’s difficult to find an open lease, and when one lease runs out, the landlord can easily rent it to someone else, leaving you to scramble for housing at the last minute. But while it’s not a good market for renters, Chicago real estate is a buyer’s market for people looking to own their own home. With Chicago condominiums, you get the best of all possible worlds. You get the stability of owning your own home, the communal use of pools, gyms and tennis courts, and you enjoy the nightlife of one of the most exciting cities in the world.

The recent burst of the housing bubble make for an ideal time to invest in Chicago condominiums. There are plenty of deals to be had, and you can pay a fraction of the price for a home as what you’d have paid a year ago. That makes a condominium an ideal investment. When you buy it this cheap, your condominium will only accrue in value as the housing market heals itself. Buy yourself a small nest egg and let it incubate in value. It’s the perfect way to build equity and invest wisely in your own future.

The deals to be had these days on condos also make it an ideal time to invest in a vacation home. Why not own real estate in a city that boasts more arts, music and culture than almost anyplace else in the world? When you need a break from the rush and hustle of the professional world, why not treat yourself and someone special to an impromptu romantic evening eating the finest in Chicago cuisine, enjoying the Chicago nightlife, absorbing the rich culture of Chicago art? Owning your own condo is the perfect way to get away from it all in a city that is known for getting away with everything.

Own a piece of Chicago with your own condo. The market is ideal, and you’ll be surprised at what you can afford. It’s the perfect investment, a better way to enjoy your equity than letting it collect dust in a bank.

Going to Back to School to Learn to Earn

February 13th, 2009

I was in a dead end retail job. The store that I worked for did not offer any type of benefits, and they only gave me a quarter raise per year. I was absolutely miserable with my daily life, but I had to pay my monthly apartment rent and other bills so I could not afford to go back to school. But this lifestyle was taking a toll on me; I was depressed and gaining weight. I needed to make some type of change in my life.

One of my co-workers mentioned that she was going to check out a local school that offered a program that would help you to attain your massage certificate in a year. She said that the school offered evening and weekend classes so that she would be able to still work her regularly scheduled hours at the store, but be able to take the courses that she needed to in order to get a massage certificate.

I decided to tag along with her on the day of the tour so I could explore what other career options that I could possibly take advantage of. The school was located just ten minutes from my apartment.

When we entered the first thing that I noticed was that everyone inside seemed to have a positive attitude. Students and administrators alike were all cordial and enthusiastic. For people to be this happy, they must love what they are doing.

We sat in on a couple of classes that were in progress. One was a traditional course in the anatomy of the body. This class was very informative and educational. Then we walked into a class that was geared to help you find the perfect environment to perform your massages, whether it is a spa or a chiropractor’s office. I never knew that there were so many places that employed massage therapists. The last classroom that we walked into was a hands-on clinical class demonstrating techniques for people that had suffered sports injuries. This class was my favorite; I could envision myself performing massages on a number of people and promoting wellness.

After the tour concluded we sat down with counselors that provided us with some statistics. These statistics included: the average pay that a massage therapist could expect to make annually, how the demand for massage therapists was on the rise, and that we could expect to find employment in less than a month after receiving our massage certificate. Needless to say that we both filled out applications for enrollment on that very same day.

A token of rememberence

February 13th, 2009

Wearing an Air Force medal is more than a matter of personal pride. It’s the pride of being part of something greater, of carrying the honor of service to those who gave their lives. More than self-recognition, medals serve as tributes to those cadets who are no longer with us to wear them proudly themselves

When you wear your Air Force service uniform, it should glow with pride and dignity. In uniform, you become a symbol of the glory of America’s armed services. You should stand out in the crowd, whether you’re in church, visiting an elementary school, or marching in a community parade. You wear it for more than just pride in yourself. You wear it out of honor for those who made the greatest sacrifice possible for this country, those who lay down their lives to preserve our most precious freedoms.

Which is why when you publicly wear a uniform, you should always strive to look your best. An Air Force medal not only adds color, dimension and dignity to a uniform, it serves as a reminder that freedom is never gotten for free. It must be taken, bought with the price of those who have fallen so that we may be free. The more decorated a uniform, the more that tribute is recognized. An impressive collection of medals stands out in a parade, reminding us all of the meaning of complete sacrifice.

Ideally, medals should always be kept polished. Pride is in the details. It shows a drive to succeed, a reflection of extra effort to go the extra mile to get the job done. The reflection of polished medals bestows honor to a uniform, reminds us all of the responsibility bestowed on those pledge to protect our freedoms. It also suggests that you strive for perfection right to the last detail. Let your medals shine admirably by keeping them freshly polished and cared for.

Wear your Air Force medals with pride. You represent something greater; in fact, you symbolize the sacrifices of those who gave their lives before you. When you step out into the community in your Air Force uniform, let your medals reflect honorably as tributes to those who gave the greatest sacrifice- giving their lives so that others may be free.
